We are 23 MONTHS into our favorite adventure! Less than two years old and this girl has changed so many lives – many more than I have at least. I have never felt more pride.
She radiates joy.

Girlfriend weighs 21 lbs, measures 29.5 in., & (surprise,surprise) has 10 teeth!
Please read that again: she STILL has 10 teeth. She got all of these teeth in at once and we haven’t seen another one surface for SEVEN MONTHS. Apparently its a common thing among kids with Ds to have missing baby teeth so maybe that’s what we’re dealing with?
Only time will tell…in the meantime, she TOTALLY rocks the jack-o-lantern look.
Kara, like any other kid, changes drastically on the daily. I love watching the phases she goes through & even though I’m sad to see some pass, she is always keeping me busy with the next one.
For example, last month I wrote about how much she loves to sleep! She’s always been a good sleeper, but this certain phase was exceptional. She was putting herself down for a nap, asking to go to bed at night, sleeping for consistent blocks of time & life was SO GOOD because we had a routine. I could really count on those minutes she would be snoozing.
Well, I knew it wasn’t going to last forever. This month was turned completely upside down & we got to the point where she would scream whenever we put her in her crib. We went back to early/middle/late night wakes ups, & absolutely refusing nap time… oh what a joy.
I’m trying to convince myself that Kara is just incredibly perspective & wants to make the transition to two kids less of a shock. Little Sister will be joining us within the month so I guess I’ll be prepared for 2-3 hours of sleep at a time. Thanks, sweet pea.

Something else that has really stood out this month is her orneriness.
She’s always had sass.
She always oozed spunk.
She really upped her defiance game last month.
I can’t say I’m surprised that I’m getting her ornery side more than ever before. Its hard not to laugh when she’s performing her antics:
…Stealing phones and crawling away as fast her little knees will take her before she face plants into the carpet and rolls over laughing.
…Pulling herself up on the coffee table so she can slyly give me the side-eye and an ornery smile with one little finger on the remote that she KNOWS she’s not allowed.
…Acting like she wants to give me something, but ripping it away last second.
Her face says it all when she’s in these moods. Her eyes light up and her smile grows wide, but its her eyebrows that are my most favorite. The expressive looks she gives can melt!

Her bashful side is also showing. It all started a few months ago & has continued to grow. We would put a hat on her head and *gasp* Oh, Kara, you are SO beautiful! & she would collapse in embarrassment. Nowadays, the second a bow goes in her hair, she covers her smile behind her tiny little palms before we have a chance to say a word!
*Also important to note that she does this the second that she knows she’s in trouble – Gosh, its so hard to stay mad!

My sweet, bashful, ornery, spunky girl. Her skills are improving each day.
She is….
…desperately wanting to walk and practices her standing every day.
…walking assisted with one hand, getting stronger & more stable.
…a master at blowing her nose.
…continuing to grow her vocabulary – she randomly called me silly (via sign language) the other day!
…self-feeding like a pro – using utensils at mealtime is a breeze now!
…getting the hang of using “yes” & “no” in the proper manner.

She leaves me happier (albeit more exhausted) than the day before. By this time next month, I will be posting about what a great big sister she is & will stop her monthly updates – moving to every 3 or 6. It’s very bittersweet seeing these end, but something tells me I’ll be kept far too busy to miss them too much!
