Welcome! This is Kara (aka Baby Lemonade). She kind of fell backwards into this nickname after we announced the news that she was going to be born with Down syndrome – I had used the tags #whenlifehandsyoulemons #babylemonade
Since we didn’t have a name picked out, everyone started calling her Baby Lemonade and the rest is history.
This page was created for a couple of reasons, all dependent on your familiarity with Down syndrome. If you LOVE someone with Down syndrome, this is a place of support. If you KNOW someone with Down syndrome, this is a place to understand. If you DON’T know anyone with Down syndrome, this is a place to learn.
I am an open book. I am not easily offended by your questions as I blog about the ups & downs of being a special needs mom. My intent on sharing our journey is to provide some insight on what it REALLY looks like to raise my daughter with Down syndrome. From this I want to see acceptance & awareness. I want to show society that a person has WORTH regardless of how many chromosomes they have.

I always figured that parenthood would keep us on our toes and it’s definitely throwing us for a loop already.
We’ve decided to share that we’ve gotten some unexpected news. Recently, we found out that Baby Girl has Trisomy 21, also known as, Down syndrome.
Every child has their own obstacles in life and this is something that we will overcome together, as a family.
This sonogram is from our 16 week checkup. We got to see her wriggling around, punching and kicking her tiny arms and legs. She’s already a fighter! She is also very healthy and is right where she needs to be.
This is not sad news, it is just different than what we were expecting and we can’t wait to hold our beautiful daughter in our arms.

My nephew born this past July was diagnosed with DS. I am intersted in learning more to be a good support for my sister and brother in law along with Mr. Cooper. Cooper has a built in buddy as he is a twin!!
