Life has been a rollercoaster in the last few months, am I right? We are all feeling the effects of so many changes to face & new hurdles to overcome on a daily basis. As a busy mom it seems impossible to keep up with.
If you’re like me, your mental and physical health may not be your top priority at the moment. But, when you feel less than your best, it can impact everything else in your life. Lately I’ve been in an rut with how I look and feel, which is a little disheartening. There are, however, some things to help us feel fabulous.
The pressure of getting everything done, the pressure of making the summer perfect while maintaining #BossBabe status can take its toll. So what can we do to feel our best?
Its rather simple.
We make some small changes to our habits, make a little effort with ourselves physically, and take time to focus on our mental health. With that in mind, here are some of the ways that you can feel fabulous as a busy mom.
Plan your days
It may sound obvious, but planning ahead can help you to feel more accomplished & in control. Be as simple or as detailed as you want. You can start by writing a list of the things that need to be done. Or you can keep a journal for upcoming appointments & meal-planning. It can often help you to stay accountable, and ticking things off the list can also help you to celebrate the little wins. However, try and avoid putting too much pressure on yourself when it comes to doing too much. If it doesn’t get done, add it to the list for tomorrow.

Drink more water
It may sound crazy, but drinking more water could help you to feel better on a day to day basis. Water can flush toxins out of your body & the list of benefits is long. Benefits include more energy, quality sleep, and better moods. If you want to make things more interesting, try fruit-infused water with this special water bottle. Keep your bottle close at hand to encourage your new, healthy habit.
Exercise more often
You hear it all the time, just 15-30 minutes of accelerated heart rate will make a significant difference in your everyday life. You’ll have more energy, sleep better at night & it will help to keep your mind sharp. Not to mention how good you’ll feel about yourself. Get creative with your workouts. They don’t have to be a grueling workout video. Get your children involved in a dance party or try a new class at the gym. My favorite creative workout?? Taking the kids for a walk. I wear my two-year-old on my back & push my four-year-old in the stroller. My heart rate gets just as high as when I go for a run!
Have a balanced diet
As a busy mom, this is my most challenging area. When you’re physically & mentally exhausted, its easy to choose convenience foods or eat the kid’s leftovers. I, for example, am usually running on a caffeine or sugar high for most of the afternoon. A huge part of taking care of our bodies is to eat a balanced diet so try to eat regular meals (set a reminder if you need to), eat together as a family & try to start with small changes, like enjoying fruit for dessert. My personal favorite dessert is dried cherries with a handful of dark chocolate chips.
Take care of your mental health
Its time to talk about mental health. If you are reading this, chances are you are longing for someone to tell you the secret to surviving motherhood with a smile on your face. Especially with the world in its current state, it can be extremely difficult to think, feel & treat those around you (including yourself) in a positive way. It is crucial to care for your mental health & the best way to do that is to take a daily time-out to think about how you feel. Things like meditation, guided thoughts, or a gratitude journal will help to lighten your mood & offers a knock-on effect. Before you know it, you’ll have formed a new habit of positivity & feeling happier is a wonderful side effect.
Make your physical health a priority
Raise your hand if you’re guilty of putting everyone’s need before you own… (yeah, me too.) You keep your children’s dentist appointment on the calendar, you make sure they see the doctor the second they are ill, but what about you? You are just as important. Look after yourself & make sure you’re getting in your annual check-ups, eye exams, blood work and vaccinations. You can’t pour from an empty cup so make sure you’re in top shape. You need to stay well & healthy for the rest of the family.
A new look
We can all be a little guilty of sticking to the makeup style that we are used to. Perhaps you are more into your neutral shades and natural looks, or maybe the opposite where you prefer heavy eye makeup and a vibrant lip color. Try and change things up a little from time to time. Some great inspiration can be found online or in magazines. Spend a little time recreating looks and see how different styles can enhance your facial features, it is sure to give you a boost in confidence.
A different hairstyle
Just like with makeup we can tend to wear hair in the exact same way. Maybe you always straighten it and leave it down, or maybe you’ve perfected your method for piling it on top of your head into a messy bun. Tomorrow, try something new. Don’t be afraid to step out of the box a little & push your comfort zone. Scroll through Pinterest or Youtube for some quick tutorials & see what catches your eye!
I hope one of these suggestions help you to feel fabulous as a busy mom & enables you to feel more in control of your chaotic day & week. Have you tried any of these tips before with success? Let me know in the comments!
